Commissioned for the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center in Fairlawn, Ohio, Susie was asked to develop a mind-calming wall feature for a public dining area adjacent to the main lobby. Known for her signature features that include a gradual dispersement of elements in free-form compositions, Susie became inspired by local bodies of water and the small pockets of air that rise through the surface of them.
Like many of Susie's biophilic art projects, "Convene II" required precision manufacturing of the components, labor intensive assembly, and coordination among 5 different companies. The entire composition was made out of maple wood that was cut into 160 organic shapes. At the request of the interior design team, each shape was hand painted with metallic gold on the edges to complement the tones of the brass fixtures hanging above the tables where the art was located.
Each piece was attached to gunmetal gray titanium standoffs all mounted to the wall in exact locations based on Susie's original composition. This artwork took roughly 5 man hours to install with a two man crew.
