Susie was commissioned to create a biophilic art installation for University Hospitals in Ohio. Her main objective was to ensure her art could somehow soothe the psyche of those entering inside. By developing a free form composition inspired by swarm patterns found in the natural world, Susie created an iconic style, for which she's now well-known.
From end to end, the composition is 12-foot long and is made out of 74 custom wooden shapes mounted with 74 stainless steel standoffs. Installed by 3 people over 8 -hours on scaffolding over the stairs, "Swarm" meanders across a vertical wall in rhythmic, undulating pattern to subconsciously connect patients to the natural world as they arrive at the hospital for their health care needs.
